The question was asked, and curiosities were raised,
Where principles were to be proven, humanity was disgraced,
A small mewling kitten, younger by far,
Was put in a container, in a death jar…
The jar was laced, with poison so potent,
That could kill a grown man, in an instant.
The poison was to break at a random time,
The kitten’s fate was to be decided, by the probability paradigm..
The jar was shut, and everyone could hear,
The kitten’s screams, of stark terror and fear!
As they pressed closer, faces alight with thirst
Their reflections showed evil threatning to burst..
At the selected hour, the jar was finally opened.
The vial of poison was shut; the jar was not yet poisoned.
But the kitten had died, out of fear they say,
Their theory was a failure, probability lost that day.
And the kitten was discarded, just like the jar,
Was thrown in the dumpster, like a burnt cigar.
And the reverends lamented, and sighed in dismay
For it was not science, but humanity that lost that day…..
I am your fan!
thanks 🙂
I always wonder how people can write that deep i only have the potential to understand 🙂 amazingly written
thaaank you 🙂
Schrödinger’s cat
Writing poems on disgraced humanity could not demean the significance of science, which has enabled the man kind to evolve for better world.
but at what cost? and better in what sense? more pollution, no values, disintegrating moral fiber of society, obesity ? Anything build on the foundation of cruelty cannot be good… perhaps that’s why we are suffering..
It is a trade off between the utopian world of literature and practical science. Don’t forget, your shared thoughts and ideas are also aided by the discovery of science- the web.
Don’t blame the science, the deteriorating society’s moral values has its manifestations from the insanity arising out of unstable human mind.
Science never preaches cruelty rather it makes human sensitive to the environment which the Almighty has bestowed on us.
no; science is indifferent…and teaches its disciples to be the same… and its this indifference that’s destroying the world….
no one cares about what happens to the rest of the world anymore, as long as he/she gets his own way…
the greater good is forgotten for momentary personal comfort
In case science would have been indifferent, how will you justify the different after effects of the same inventions of science – take radioactive isotopes which help save human lives from deadly cancer or wiped the whole humanity in Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
It is the greed and fear of the few enemies of civilisation, that has made the world a lot more difficult to live, where the science is a mere tool in their hands to paint the whole world black.
Before the advent of science, people believed in god, people feared the result of their actions.People as you know are not the best long term thinkers as a collective group…before science, they were powerless against nature, science has empowered humans .And unfortunately humans have knowingly or unknowingly used it against nature and humanity….
People, communities and society at large still repose their faith in the Almighty, otherwise religion wouldn’t have been an essential ingredient in the evolution of human race.
FYI, science still has not been able to conquer the forces of nature, tsunami’s, earthquake’s, and storm’s of the world, engulfing the various life forms of the planet are a glaring case of their timidness.
All self proclaimed rulers who used science as a means to destroy the humanity have been cut to size in one way or the another but the one’s who had the vision to serve the man kind through science have been bestowed with all the bounties to expand their empire of generosity and benevolence.
Who are you BTW?
ummm.. Sorry to interrupt, but I wanted to ask you, do you read on this..? quantum physics and all? Or have an idea? I tried grasping some of it some time nack but ws held back by my slow understanding.
Now. Please continue.
you know…actually it all started with me watching big bang theory …. Schrodinger’s cat was mentioned a lot of times in it and it really got me wondering… that the experiment was OK, the scientist was great,,, but what about the poor cat? hence the poem followed…
Scientific history is replete with examples of use of living organisms to carry on path breaking researches. A case worth mentioning is use of dog by Ivan Pavlov to demonstrate Classical conditioning which formed the basis of behavioural therapy in humans.
Well the inspiration to write can be taken from anywhere; I guess that is the best part of any poet who can influence the masses from a single cue.
Amused to see that poets and writers have flair to watch scientific objective material which follows logical reasoning and rational analysis.
what are you – a poet or a scientist? 😉 …. Scientific history is replete with example of callous treatment towards animals as well as humans… not saying that science hasn’t contributed to society, but the ill effects offset the good ones by a mile….. all I feel is that though its commendable that our race has come a long way with the help of science, we are now in danger of losing what defined us as a separate species in the first place – the very semblance of our humanity!
I’m a learner who wishes to become versed with the journey called “life” through sharing experiences.
Discussion with you within the realm of science and its pitfalls seems to be taking a new dimension, where my advocating for its cause has achieved its end.
Most of your poems reflect anguish, distress and grudge about the way and means the humanity has shaped so far. Your writing may find a voice with followers who view things and events in the world with pessimism.
For me life is a “rollercoaster” which has it’s up and down and is not a math puzzle to quantify the gains over losses or vice versa.
Well I really am thankful that you took the time to read my poems in the first place.
😀
