The last shedding

Autumns came ,and autumns went…

Winters Came,and retreated spent..

The trees held fast not a twig moved..

The road was bare, cant say it approved…

In times of old those formidable trees,

Had many a storm brought down to it’s knees

Standing tall and bare, they braved natures wrath,

There was always that will, there was always a path..

Then a couple of years ago,a new twig grew,

The trees loved it,and never wanted to bid it adieu,

And they forgot laws, seasons and even the road,

and kept it naked and parched,a sorry sight to behold….

They lost their charm .No, it was an identity they they had lost,

They just held up leaves , they were just leaves crisscrossed..

And the goodwill of the road was forfeited a long time ago,

What ever was left, was not near enough to show..

Then suddenly some day, a sudden breeze blew,

Somewhere from some tree, some leaf flew,

The trees tried to catch it ,but it was too late,

Autumn was here at last, you cant fight fate…

The leaves continued falling, and the trees grew lighter,

the trees continued resisting, but autumn never faltered.

And at last the roads thirst for cover was quenched,

The trees were mourning ,the road was drenched…

And then they, who stood  tall, took one look at themselves,

Shorn of their leaves , splendid, no longer just shelves…

And they stood proud and tall, and what came out of this pain

were enlightned stumps, that would never accumulate leaves again…..
